eBay Fees Calculator
Work out eBay's final value fee, per-order fee, ad and international fees, and your real profit before you list. Uses eBay's current US rates for 2026.
How to use the eBay fees calculator
- Pick your category. Most items fall under "most categories" at 13.6%. Books, movies and music, coins, trading cards, handbags, jewelry, watches, guitars and sneakers have their own rates.
- Enter the sold price and the shipping you charge. eBay charges its final value fee on shipping too. If you offer free shipping, enter 0.
- Add sales tax for an exact figure. eBay calculates the fee on the total amount of the sale, which includes the sales tax it collects. Use your buyer's state rate, or around 7% as an average.
- Enter your costs. What you paid your supplier and what the shipping label costs you.
- Add optional fees. Your Promoted Listings ad rate and whether the buyer is outside the US.
The calculator shows the final value fee, any ad and international fees, total eBay fees, and your profit and margin. Change the sold price until the margin looks right. That's the fastest way to price a new listing.
eBay selling fees in 2026
eBay charges two main selling fees: an insertion fee when you create a listing and a final value fee when it sells. Some sellers also pay an international fee, advertising fees, optional upgrades or a Store subscription. There's no separate payment processing fee; that's built into the final value fee.
The final value fee
A percentage of the total amount of the sale (item price, shipping and handling charged to the buyer, and sales tax), plus a per-order fee. For most categories it's 13.6% on the first $7,500 and 2.35% on anything above $7,500.
The per-order fee: $0.30 or $0.40
$0.30 if the order total is $10.00 or less, $0.40 if it's over $10.00. It's charged once per order, not per item, so multi-item orders save you money. On a $6 item the $0.30 alone is 5% of the price.
Insertion fees
Every seller gets up to 250 zero insertion fee listings a month. After that each listing costs $0.35 per category. Guitars and basses have no insertion fee, athletic shoes starting at $150 or more are free to list, and heavy equipment costs $20 per listing.

| Category | Final value fee | Per-order fee |
|---|---|---|
| Most categories (clothing, electronics, home & garden, toys, health & beauty) | 13.6% up to $7,500, then 2.35% | $0.30 / $0.40 |
| Books, movies & music (not vinyl) | 15.3% up to $7,500, then 2.35% | $0.30 / $0.40 |
| Coins & paper money (not bullion) | 13.25% up to $7,500, then 2.35% | $0.30 / $0.40 |
| Trading cards, card games, comics | 13.25% up to $7,500, then 2.35% | $0.30 / $0.40 |
| Bullion | 13.6% if $7,500 or less; 7% if over | $0.30 / $0.40 |
| Women's bags & handbags | 15% if $2,000 or less; 9% if over | $0.30 / $0.40 |
| Jewelry (not watches) | 15% if $5,000 or less; 9% if over | $0.30 / $0.40 |
| Watches, parts & accessories | 15% up to $1,000, 6.5% to $7,500, 3% above | $0.30 / $0.40 |
| Guitars & basses | 6.7% up to $7,500, then 2.35% | $0.30 / $0.40 |
| Athletic shoes (sneakers) | 8% if $150 or more; 13.6% under $150 | None at $150+ |
| Heavy equipment, food trucks | 3% up to $15,000, then 0.5% | $0.30 / $0.40 |
Watch the wording. "Up to $7,500, then 2.35%" works like a tax bracket: only the part above $7,500 gets the lower rate. "$2,000 or less; 9% if over" applies one rate to the whole sale, so a $2,100 handbag pays less in fees than a $1,900 one. The calculator handles both.
Other eBay fees to include
International fee: 1.65%
US sellers who don't use eBay International Shipping pay an extra 1.65% of the total sale when the buyer is outside the US. Use eBay International Shipping and the fee doesn't apply.
Promoted Listings
Promoted Listings General lets you set an ad rate from 2% to 100% of the total sale. You only pay when a buyer clicks the ad and buys within 30 days. Enter your real rate in the calculator; suggested rates in busy categories often run well above the minimum.
Below Standard surcharge
If your account is rated Below Standard, eBay adds 6% of the total sale to your fees (7% after four months in a row). A very high "item not as described" return rate adds 5%. Keeping your seller level up is a fee strategy.
Worked examples
A $40 item with $8 shipping and 7% tax
Total sale: ($40 + $8) x 1.07 = $51.36. Final value fee: 13.6% = $6.98, plus $0.40 per order. Total fees: $7.38. With an $18 item cost and an $8.50 label, profit is $14.12.
An $8 paperback
Free shipping, 6% tax, total $8.48. 15.3% = $1.30 plus $0.30 = $1.60, or 20% of the price. Bundle cheap media into lots where you can.
Sneakers at $140 plus $15 shipping
With 8% tax the total is $167.40, which is over $150, so the 8% rate applies with no per-order fee: $13.39. At 13.6% plus $0.40 the same pair would cost $23.17.
An international buyer
$60 plus $25 shipping to Canada, shipped yourself. 13.6% of $85 = $11.56, plus $0.40, plus 1.65% international = $1.40. Total: $13.36.
Does an eBay Store lower your fees?
Yes, from Basic up. Basic, Premium, Anchor and Enterprise subscribers usually pay 12.7% up to $2,500 then 2.35% in most categories, plus more free listings. Starter pays the same rates as non-store sellers. Full details on eBay's Store selling fees page.
| Store | Monthly (yearly plan) | Monthly (monthly plan) | Free fixed price listings |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $4.95 | $7.95 | 250 |
| Basic | $21.95 | $27.95 | 1,000 |
| Premium | $59.95 | $74.95 | 10,000 |
| Anchor | $299.95 | $349.95 | 25,000 |
| Enterprise | $2,999.95 | Not available | 100,000 |
Is Basic worth it? On the $40 example the Store rate saves about $0.46 per sale, so at $21.95 a month you need roughly 48 sales a month in that category for the saving alone to cover it. Electronics drop further for Store subscribers (9.35%, and 7.35% for laptops, tablets and consoles).
eBay vs Amazon vs Etsy fees
How a $40 item with free shipping compares, ignoring tax, ads and fulfilment services:
| eBay | Amazon | Etsy | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | 250 free a month, then $0.35 | None | $0.20 per listing |
| Main sale fee | 13.6% + $0.30/$0.40 | Referral fee, 15% in most categories | 6.5% transaction fee |
| Payment processing | Included | Included | 3% + $0.25 (US) |
| Account fee | Optional Store from $4.95/month | $0.99 per item or $39.99/month | None required |
| Fees on a $40 sale | $5.84 | $6.00 (+$0.99 Individual) | $4.25 |

Eight ways to lower your eBay fees
- Stay Above Standard or Top Rated. The Below Standard surcharge adds 6% to every sale.
- Use eBay International Shipping to remove the 1.65% international fee.
- Encourage multi-item orders. The per-order fee is charged once per order.
- Bundle cheap items into lots. Ten $3 items pay ten per-order fees; one $30 lot pays one.
- Price shipping close to cost. You pay 13.6% on every shipping dollar you collect.
- Run the Store maths for your category. Basic pays for itself at volume, especially in electronics.
- Set ad rates per listing. Promote high-margin items harder and keep thin-margin ones low.
- Claim fee credits on cancelled or refunded sales. Check your invoice in Seller Hub each month.
Selling on eBay as a dropshipper? Buying from a wholesale supplier that ships to your buyer is allowed; ordering from another retailer is not. Read our eBay Seller Hub guide and eBay product research tools, or use Dropshiptool's Product Database to find products that are already selling before you list them.
eBay fees FAQs
How much does eBay take per sale in 2026?
For most categories, 13.6% of the total amount of the sale (item price, shipping and sales tax) up to $7,500, plus a per-order fee of $0.30 for orders of $10 or less or $0.40 above $10. Books, media, jewelry, handbags, sneakers and some collectibles have different rates.
Does eBay charge fees on shipping and sales tax?
Yes. The final value fee is calculated on the total amount of the sale, including shipping you charge and the sales tax eBay collects. That's why fees look higher than 13.6% of the item price.
What is the eBay final value fee for clothing and shoes?
Most clothing, shoes and accessories pay the standard 13.6% plus the per-order fee. Athletic shoes selling for $150 or more (total sale) pay 8% with no per-order fee. Women's bags and handbags pay 15% up to $2,000 and 9% above that.
How many free listings do you get on eBay?
Sellers without a Store get up to 250 zero insertion fee listings a month, then $0.35 per listing. Store subscribers get more: 1,000 on Basic, 10,000 on Premium and 25,000 on Anchor.
Is an eBay Store worth it to save on fees?
It depends on volume and category. Basic and higher Stores usually pay 12.7% instead of 13.6%, so Basic at $21.95 a month pays for itself at roughly 50 sales a month in most categories, and sooner in electronics.
Are eBay fees higher than Amazon or Etsy?
On a $40 item, eBay's fees are about $5.84, Amazon's referral fee is $6.00 in most categories (plus $0.99 per item on the Individual plan), and Etsy's fees total about $4.25. Advertising changes the picture on every platform.
